Waterdrinker’s roots lie in the market in Zaandam, a city in the shadow of Amsterdam. This is the place where founder and namesake Jaap Waterdrinker began to trade in plants and flowers. As a market trader, he regularly bought so many plants and flowers that he stored the wares in his house boat and his family literally slept “between the green”. When that was no longer possible, Jaap began a flower shop.
This flower shop developed into a plant wholesaler’s in Aalsmeer, the heart of the plant and flower sector. ‘Uncle’ Jaap had a nose for unique products and dared to take risks. Waterdrinker is still known for its guts and innovative character today. Thanks in part to this, our company developed at record pace from local plant trader, to one of the biggest global exporters and wholesalers of indoor and outdoor plants, flowers and accessories.
At the beginning of 2018, we opened the Waterdrinker Green Trade Center (GTC): the largest green trade centre in Europe with no less than 25,000 m² of plants, flowers and accessories. A place that will bring you joy! As a forerunner in the sector, you would be justified in referring to the GTC as a showroom for the ornamental plant and flower sector.
Let’s keep on growing!
