On April 14th, the Floriade Expo 2022 started. During
this World Horticultural Exhibition, various product competitions take place,
in which national and international participants compete with each other within
various categories. From May 5th you can admire the award-winning products
(from a total of 13 competitions) in our Green Trade Center.
The first product competition covered the categories
Bulb Flowers, Other Typical Flowering Plants and Forced Shrubs. Japan scored
well this day. In the Bulb Flowers category, the first prize went to Toyama
Prefecture with Tulipa 'Otome no Dress' and in the category Other
Typical Flowering Plants Flower Spirit Co. Ltd won with Ranunculus
asiaticus 'Wataboushi'. This first competition day also had a nice Dutch
touch. The first prize in the category Forced Shrubs went to Seringen.nl
from Aalsmeer. They received the highest score for their Syringa vulgaris
'Lucie Baltet'.
Seringen.nl was also the big winner of the Floriade Excellence Award. This award is intended for the most outstanding product entry per competition day, in this case the Syringa vulgaris 'Edith Braun'. On the attached photo you see lilac grower Jan Ten Hoeve on the left, who is handed the prize at his nursery by Marco van Zijverden, Chairman of the Advisory Council for Flowers and Plants.
The assessment took place by a professional jury of
people with different backgrounds in the chain: from production to sales. Our
very own Patrick Dobbe, who also judged in the Bulb Flowers category, is
working hard to make the award-winning products available at Dobbe Flowers in
the GTC. Keep an eye on our social channels for more information!
