Collaborations
in the chain often lead to the most extraordinary results. The development of
Cannova Casa is a fine example. Grower BB Plant, young plant producer
Beekenkamp, and seed breeder Takii joined forces in their mission to create a
new Canna concept. Their goal? Turning the well-known Canna garden plant into a
houseplant.
The parties
called upon the Post Harvest Knowledge Center for independent research and
consulted chain partners and consumers to assess the feasibility of this
project. Now – two years later – knowing that this specially selected variety
thrives indoors and can meet customer needs, the project is entering a new
phase with an introduction at Waterdrinker. Product Developer Ed Mol is excited to offer the first batches at our Novelty Square:
“Cannova
Casa is a great houseplant with beautiful, warm, green-bronze leaves. Tests
show that this particular Canna can form buds or even flowers indoors with
sufficient light. And outdoors, it blooms all summer long with large peach-colored
flowers. People will appreciate the Mediterranean charm, indoors and out!”
The Cannova Casa (introduced as ‘Our Future Plant’ during the GTC Days in March) is available at Waterdrinker from this week on (week 13).
