The Desert Rose can now be admired in the LAB at the entrance area of the Green Trade Center. The special succulent plant isn’t for sale yet, but it's available from May 2020 at Waterdrinker as a Novelty&Specialty.
From minimalism to floral pride
At first sight it does not look like a plant but rather an art object, whimsical in shape. A thick trunk that ends in bare branches. The plant needs a minimum of water and a very light place. Only then the miracle of nature will start: Fresh green leaves appear on the trunk, followed by brightly colored small flowers. If you have luck the whole process will repeat several times a year.
Care tips
- Only water when the soil has completely dried out. The plant stores water in the thick trunk.
- When the plant grows, add some nutrition with the water.
- Maintain a temperature of at least 15 degrees all year round. The Desert Rose does not grow quickly, but at lower temperatures the growth comes to a complete stop.
- Place the plant as light as possible, in full sun is no problem.
- The plant can go outside in the spring, but in full sun if you want to enjoy optimal flowering.
- Pay close attention to night frost and bring the Desert Rose back inside on time in the fall.
- When the Desert Rose drops all the leaves, put the plant away dry and wait for spring.
- Note: the Desert Rose is a poisonous plant.
